Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
